Opening: Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 6 to 8PM
Dates: September 26 to December 12 , 2019.
Location: Octagon Gallery, Top Floor of City Hall 333 90th St. Daly City, CA 94015
Presented by: the Daly City Arts & Culture Commission for Latinx Heritage Month.
Exhibition presents two artists: Indira Urrutia and Juan Carlos Mendizabal
Since 2016, Indira Urrutia started exploring the technique of metal weaving. Knitting and weaving have been part of Urrutia’s life since childhood. As such, Indira uses the process of hand knitting to reconnect with the female family members who have inspired her throughout her life. Just as she has done with photography in the past, Urrutia uses weaving to recollect the memories, tales, and history of her life.

Tiles

I have been doing an art residence @ L’Atelier Güell in Barcelona for the last four-month, and I can not stop being influenced by the architecture of the city. Tiles are everywhere, therefore, I decided to weave tiles, just like weaving. Tiles have also emigrated from place to place. Techniques that get passed through from elders masters.

(plated titanium, bronze, stainless still, copper, silver plated)

Price: $ 2,400 a set of 4

Masiaca Eggs Baskets

These Baskets installation is to honor the traditional eggs baskets from Masiaca.   This is the most recognizable utility basket they are known for, in the present only a couple of people are holding and trying to continue with this technique. Due to mass production. The technique is getting lost.

Medium: Wire weaving (silver plated)

Price: $600 the whole set
